LOOKOUTS

There is something special about sitting up high and surveying your surrounds and in this department there is little to compare with the Bingara region. With views ranging from overlooking Bingara itself to our natural and manmade watercourses. Bush land settings to unique and dramatic volcanic formations, that have been waiting 21 million years to meet you.

We know there is a commanding view to suit all tastes and to assist the following is a short list of the ones made easy and comfortable for visitors to our region.

Copeton Dam

With a viewing platform as well as lookouts distributed around the dam perimeter it not hard to catch a sunset like this. Being such a significant feature of the area Copeton dam has its own page on this website. Taking Keera road will also present you with spectacular views from the granite country of the tablelands to the Gwydir valley

 

Munro State Forest Lookout

The picnic area and lookout are located 37 kms east of Bingara. The vantage gives a fantastic view overlooking the property ‘Keera’ down the Gwydir river valley, below Copeton dam. Walking trails also lead to mossy glens and massive granite tors or outcrops.

 

Batterham Lookout

Only 1.5 km of sealed road out of town and with Picnic facilities we couldn’t have made it any easier. The view takes in the town as well as the Halls creek and Gwydir river valleys.

For those who forgot the picnic basket a quick trip to the Bingara bakehouse will supply you with lots of yummy treats or for motel guest giving prior notice will see you supplied with a cheese and fruit platter (would really go well with some of the local wine from that winery trip).

Rocky Creek to Mt Kaputer National Park

An impressive contrast occurs in this region, with numerous vantage points presenting the geographical wonders of a glacial area. Such as Rocky Creeks smooth rounded rocks and boulders contrasted against bold jagged volcanic formations.
