BARRACK CREEK

Found by heading south from Bingara on the Barraba road for approximately 15 kms the road wiggles a little, there is a tank and windmill in a paddock on your left, just beyond this is the road to Upper Bingara, you turn left at this point.

The first time you meet the creek you will cross it via a small bridge then pass a wall of shiny serpentine on your right. As you travel around a slight bend you come to a small stand of grass trees, which are also on your right.

If you turn here, the track will take you down to a gold fossicking area where you may pan in the creek. In the village itself, follow the bitumen until you come to a numbered signpost marked No 21. This directs you to the remains of the European Cemetery.

At this point you may park beside the road and then take stepping stones across the creek to the cemetery. Here you will see evidence of old workings and mullock heaps now overgrown. This is an area you may fossick in.
